Here's a simple beginners Guide to Strategy playing and Tactics in War Thunder
First of all Know the Role you wish to take - Plane Types
When playing within a Battle you'll have people playing different roles to help Win the game. These roles include; Fighters, Attackers and Bombers. It's best to find out which class of player you are as this will help you to know what type of planes to research as well as the tactics you need to take into consideration when in a game.Fighter Planes - Fighter planes are usually equipped with light weapons and machine guns such as the MGs, used majority of the time in a close-air-combat situation they can be fast but also fairly fragile in comparison to the other types of planes.
- Note that Fighter planes can also include heavy-fighter planes and naval-fighter planes which pose different set ups as well as the modifications which can be purchased for them.
Attacker Planes - Attackers are usually the larger or more heavier equipped planes which hold cannons, MGs and other attachments such as bombs and rockets. Although attacker planes are more solid (stronger airframe/coverings) and have better fire power they also lack speed meaning that they require more space to perform tactics and build speed.
-Note: There's is also heavy-attackers and light attackers which have different charastics & modifications.
Bomber Planes - The name says it all! Bombers are the kings of taking out bases and other ground units such as pillboxes, the different types of bombers range from heavy, light and dive bombers which all carry a good payload ranging from 250-5000kg and 3 to 35 bombs. The heavier bombers usually consist of undercarriage turrets, front & back and even side turrets to protect them where as the light bombers could only have a tail turret or front & back.
Second tip - Play War Thunder as a Team, even join a Squadron
Possibly one of the best tips to take on board as war thunder is a cooperative game between yourself and other pilots to help achieve different roles within a battle to win, this includes taking out enemy ground units, destroying AAA's, pillboxes and battleships, dominating the skies killing enemy planes or even capping which is where you land on a field you need to capture in-order to win it. There are many different objectives to achieve which is why playing in a team/squadron will help your team organise tactics & enemy spotting as well as requiring different waves of planes. You can find a squadron by going to your in-game Menu -> Squadrons and searching, alternatively if you wish to find out more about a squad look at the War Thunder Squadron Forums.Going lone survivor in a game of hounds won't help you at all so it's worth finding people to battle it in the skies with, they can also help with in-game questions you might have.
Bear in mind that most Squadrons will require you to have a form of communication such as Teamspeak 3 / Ventrilo and good coordination to help with enemy calling, listening to the squad leaders calls and following commands.
Third Tip & an Important one - Use Altitude to your best advantage
Altitude will benefit every pilot in War Thunder and in every dogfight situation, it'll allow you to get the speed and energy you require to pull off maneuvers such as the most well known Boom and Zoom. When you start a match you're best off either climbing as much as you can with a steady speed or turn left/right of the map to start your climb away from head-on fighters (best way usually). As you move up tiers, planes tend to be more bulky and heavier due to fire-power & weight of airframe etc this means they need to have a faster cruising so low-close combat should be avoided... unless you want to stall and fall out of the sky ;) .These are the few tips that every beginner needs to take into consideration, you should also look into our post on Energy Management, we will be posting more helpful guides soon!
