A frustrating time trying to learn how to play tanks in war thunder without understanding at least a little bit about the game or if the tactics you use in specific maps are working out for you.. it's even more frustrating when there's just so much information to take in and little time to surf the web.
So this is why we've put together a rather small list of tips you can think about when you next play in a tank battle.
We'd always encourage any player to try and get a friend to squad up when first getting used to the game, A good way to do this is to talk to people in General chat or post on the forums.
1. Learn the basics of the game before jumping into combat.
Always the best starting point presuming you've installed the game already... but crucial to get a grasp. It's best to find out what type of maps available for you to play in tank battles first(get ready for a few tabs here) also knowing the Types of ammunition your tank will use.2. Know what type of Game mode you can get used to.
It's recommended to do three games in different game modes and tally up your Kill/death ratio, reasearch/modification points & battle effort % and you'll do this in Arcade, Realistic and simulator modes. Think about how much you enjoyed different types of modes and decide which one to stick to. (If you're lower tier it's best to try arcade for a little while as it'll provide the best RP whilst you're gaining modifications and learning to strike them kills!3. Know the right gun distance for the type of map/ tanks
In most cases when playing lower tier maps tend to be a bit smaller and even with a big map you'll most likely have an enemy player firing at you from a close distance. Most of the time this tends to be around 500-800 metres before they aim, lock and fire so keep that in mind when selecting your gun distances.4. Wait for the right moment when shooting - if you have one
If you spot a lone wolf or a pack don't just open fire at random unless you're charging through a field with no option, it's always best to alert other players if there's more then a handful of tanks by giving away a position (M - then click their red dots) or asking for support. If you see a tank lurking around which is vulnerable wait for that moment you can strike a critical hit or get a few good clear hits.5. Communication is key in any War Thunder Game mode!
If you have any friends playing war thunder who can join your tank game it's good to create a squad and use the chat function in-game to call directions or commands, better yet see if they use Teamspeak (you can use a free room) or something like skype, this is also why joining a squadron is beneficial as they usually require voice chat so you can support each other better.6. Try to Strike the enemy tank first
In any combat situation strike the enemy before he does you, as soon as you know someone is near keep a clear eye out on your Tactical map and visually where he is and moving towards. Line up a clear shot with your tank angled at it's strongest point towards him and shoot, hopefully you'll have the chance to see and out manoeuvre him first.
7. Try to out-flank your opponent and use some Artillery if you have it
If in a heated combat situation and you have a fast tank, try to flank the opponent by driving around objects or different areas of landscapes (taking into consideration where he is too) and make sure you cover yourself with some Artillery which can be unlocked on most tanks.. Giving you enough time to ready your next shot as you leave him distracted trying to run from a bombardment of shells.
Last Tank tip - Never go to the same spot twice or go far away from your team mates if your players are fewer then the opponents team.
